Free trade is still the major cause behind our economic mess. The value of workers and labor has been deflated and this is a better money standard than all the funny money games played by the money changers in a global economic casino. The trade deficit has broken records since 1994 with trillions of dollars of value lost forever. With this massive imbalance in the value of workers and labor, austerity programs will not work. The imbalances are completely out of whack.
The elder President Bush formulated free trade and President Clinton passed the trade agreements quickly after taking office. However, free trade is not really trade. It is more about moving production from place to place for the sake of cheaper labor. However, with more than a billion workers in the world willing to work for practically nothing , it is a race to the bottom with the water level being impoverished workers. President Bush, the Second, followed President Clinton and hid the economic disaster of free trade behind his preemptive "shock and awe" wars. Then President Obama took over and bailed out big money, Wall Street and Trans National Corporations who were responsible for the economic crisis while ignoring the suffering of workers and small businesses that lost everything due to free trade. If Mitt Romney wins the election, he will just continue with the same policies if you can call anything a policy. The trillions of dollars it took to bail out the globalist free trade money changers have changed the course of history and there are no economists who know what to do about it.
With free trade, nations became brokers and dealers in a global casino and gambled away the money we once had. A new kind of colonialism was created too with nations finding they have to protect their interests across the globe. This has led to wars and revolutions. The United States has now endured the longest war in history with its economy now dependent on wars. It is the largest supplier of military weapons and equipment.
